So how many times have you visited a web site from your phone and have to scroll sideways or "pinch and twist" the screen to view a section of the page? Too often I would say. Chances are that site is not a 'Responsive Site'. With the trend of more and more people surfing the web on Smartphones and Tablets,
there is a need for web pages to respond to different screen sizes.
What is Responsive Web Design? It is a combination of CSS and Media Queries that read the viewing screen size and calls the correct style sheet to format the pages to fit the device. This allows the user a more enjoyable visit to the web site and even formats to landscape views on tablets.
I think this is a great selling point as a web designer to add some extra value to your services by offering your clients this technology and this will most definitely bring in more revenue because I think Responsive Layouts are a must have if you want your viewers to have a seamless experience viewing your web site.
Some great resources for learning this technology are available through tutorials on Lynda.com and on Adobe.com.
Responsive web sites are awesome, they make it so much easier to make a site look great on whatever kind of device you are using. With so many people using mobile phones and tablets to use the web this is such a great option. Responsive sites are something I am looking forward to learning in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand it when the site isn't a responsive one. It is nice that many companies have now changed their sites to fix this and we no longer have to pinch, scroll and zoom....
ReplyDeleteNice design... It looks really good.. A site should be very quick. If it's not it's mostly the database or bad server side code that causes the problem. That has been my experence anyway.
